Conceptual luxury bags are only part of the HANSENGROSS philosophy.
This newsletter, surfacing once every other month, talks about offers and events but also our Culture in general.
#1 starts close to home by showcasing our
Spring / Summer 2007 collection, a profile of our Italian connection at Milan’s Tearose, some excellent leather care advice, a memory of Sol LeWitt, and information on how to leave your climate footprint behind.

Enjoy. Love,

HANSENGROSS retailers are selected for their strong sense of concept and style, they are destinations in themselves – and ‘Tearose’ is no exception. Here every object is used to express the stylistic philosophy of this concept boutique.

“The key is that luxury is really more abstract than material,” says Alessandra Rovati, whose stores carry brands such as Boudicca, Lanvin, Christian Louboutin, and of course, HANSENGROSS. “It’s the culture of the object, the research, and the personality.”
The ‘Tearose World’ evolves around various elements of luxury goods: The flower shop in Rome, the Milan lifestyle experience, and the concept store in Monza all take on different expressions. The Tearose Café (www.tearosecafe.it) accommodates events spanning from photography to music, from sculpture to the presentation of books.

Care Advice

 Protect your skin ”

This is general care advice intended for high-end leather products.
Always test products on a small hidden area before treating.
All leather reacts differently to products.

Smaller scuffs in your leather can often be remedied by simply rubbing them with your finger.
A light, even coating of 'Leather Lotion' type products, available in most shoe repair shops,
can be applied. The application of any cream or oil will darken the color of leather.

Try removing spots with the light touch of a clean eraser. Don't go crazy!
For tough jobs, dampen a soft cotton cloth with plain water. Rub the spot, then the whole surface lightly,
so that the moisture is consistent. It may look a bit mottled at first but should dry just fine.

The color of leather will fade when exposed to sunlight, and along with pen marks,
this is difficult to correct. Never use paint thinner or other chemicals to remove marks or spots.
They will lighten the color and make a small spot worse.

 A Minimalist Master ”

After the death of Sol LeWitt last month, we wanted to commemorate someone who has had great influence on the HANSENGROSS philosophy. We are inspired by his prolific two and three-dimensional work ranging from over 1200 Wall Drawings, to photographs, and hundreds of works on paper and extends to structures in the form of towers, pyramids, geometric forms, and progressions. Sol LeWitt’s frequent use of open, modular structures originate from the cube, a form that influenced the artist’s thinking from early in his career.

“When an artist uses a conceptual form of art, it means that all of the planning and decisions are made
beforehand and the execution is a perfunctory affair,”
said LeWitt, who was linked to various movements, and helped establish conceptual art and minimalism. “The idea becomes a machine that makes the art.”

Leave your climate footprint behind

There is much debate on how to help the environment, and of course living a ‘green’ life is the ideal solution.
Unfortunately the Maldives are only reached by plane or boat and not all apartment buildings are set up for solar panels, so offsetting your carbon (or climate) footprint also allows you to become part of the solution to climate change, by supporting the reduction of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere equal to your carbon footprint.

Carbon offsets are also generally more cost effective and practical than most measures an individual can take.
Donating to the Carbon Fund or other similar organizations every time you take a flight is a great place to start.
